The features we are building.
An honest status on each.

Salinity is an Android boat app being built in public. Each feature below carries one label, and anything that is not in the current Android app says so. Join the waitlist to follow along.

Months appear only when we are sure. No month means we are not.

Live today

You can use it today in the Android app from salinity.live, or on salinity.live where the row says so.

  • Weather forecast

See the National Weather Service forecast for your saved Home or Vacation area, saved for offline viewing. U.S. coastal areas only.

  • Tides and currents

U.S. tide and current predictions in the app; a live NOAA tide chart on salinity.live.

  • Florida fishing rules

Florida state and adjacent federal rules for 14 reviewed species, with links to the official source. Other regions are not covered. Verify the official rule before keeping a fish.

  • Emergency Plan

Write your boat, crew and return details once; send them as a text when you need to. Needs cell signal to send.

  • Man-overboard alarm

A loud alarm and a text with the time. The current Android app cannot connect to a boat, so it records no position.

  • Check-in reminders

A reminder before and at your Emergency Plan return time. Android may deliver it late while the phone is idle.

  • Catch log

Record species, quantity, notes and a photo in a few taps.

  • Maintenance reminders and records

Service items tracked against the engine hours you enter; records, receipts and photos kept on salinity.live.

  • Trip planner (website)

Plan a route on a map in your browser and export it as GPX.

  • Solunar times

Sun, moon and fishing-window timing for your area.

Built, not in the current app

  • Reading your boat’s engine data

Connect to the data your boat already broadcasts, listen-only, through a compatible Bluetooth gateway. Not in the current Android app.

  • Depth margin watch

A warning when the water under you is getting shallower than your margin. Not in the current Android app.

  • Watch alerts

Selected alerts on a paired Wear OS watch. Not in the current Android app.

  • Trip recording with the screen locked

A trip record designed to keep going when the screen goes off. Not in the current Android app.

  • Engine alerts in plain English

A short message when a reading moves away from what is normal for your engine, with one thing to check. Built. Not in the current Android app.

  • Fuel economy and range

How efficiently the boat is running and how far the fuel will take you home. Built. Not in the current Android app.

  • Charts and live boat data

Chart views and live speed, depth and position on one screen. Not in the current Android app.

  • Trip history with engine hours and summaries

Each trip saved with run time, distance and what happened. Not in the current Android app.

Exploring

An idea. No promise.

  • Mechanic Live

If something goes wrong once, the exact moment and what every recorded system was doing, ready for your mechanic. A sketch, not a product. Not in the current Android app.

  • iPhone app

Salinity for iPhone. The current app is Android only. Not in the current Android app.

  • Anchor watch

An alert when the boat drifts outside the boundary you set. Not in the current Android app.

  • Credentials wallet

Licenses, captain credentials and vessel documents in one private place with expiry reminders. Not in the current Android app.

The boat questions are optional, but they help decide which engines and gateways come first.
