Salinity is an Android boat companion for compatible NMEA 2000 boats. It keeps live readings, trips, maintenance, conditions, safety tools, and private boat records together, then uses clean trip history to learn how your boat normally behaves. It is decision support—not a chartplotter, emergency service, or substitute for the captain.

Android and iPhone release candidates are being prepared for store review. Neither public store listing is live yet. Open the Install page for the current release status or to request beta access.

NMEA-powered features need a compatible Bluetooth NMEA 2000 gateway and supported data published on the boat network. The Bluetooth gateway protocol is still in hardware validation and is not enabled in public store builds yet. Compatibility is based on the exact model, interface, PGNs, and data available—not a brand whitelist.

No. Salinity’s supported gateway path is read-only: it listens to available NMEA 2000 data and has no product feature for sending commands back to the network.

Each clean trip groups direction, speed, engine load, RPM, fuel flow, pressure, temperature, voltage, and other supported readings that happened together. Neutral idle, reverse, and each observed one-MPH forward group remain separate. More clean trips make the boat-specific comparison more confident.

No. Reference limits provide an early check, but Salinity is also designed to notice when readings no longer fit the boat’s usual relationship at that direction, speed, and load. Relationship-drift performance is still being proven aboard and must not replace manufacturer alarms.

Salinity includes local phone notifications and is validating selected engine, electrical, depth, tide-margin, anchor, and safety alerts for the phone and Wear OS companion. Availability depends on the feature status, phone permissions, watch connection, gateway, and data the boat actually publishes.

No. Never use Salinity as a life-safety system. Maintain a proper lookout and required equipment, follow official charts and manufacturer alarms, and use VHF/DSC, an EPIRB or PLB, and the appropriate local emergency service when needed.

Core trip and boat records are kept locally for offline use. The website dashboard has private account storage for boats, trips, maintenance, marks, plans, conditions, safety records, and files. Complete two-way app and website synchronization and cloud restore are not yet released, so export records you cannot afford to lose.

Yes. The Trip Planner offers the same NOAA Marine chart, USGS Satellite, and NOAA BlueTopo Relief views used in the app. It keeps the same center and zoom while switching, uses a half-second hold to place ordered waypoints, and includes undo, editable names, icons and coordinates, NOAA point context, browser drafts, and GPX export. It accepts DD, DDM, or DMS coordinates, either coordinate order, and selectable navigation and depth units. Satellite imagery is online-only. Never use these reference views or the regional depth estimate as a navigation chart.

Use the same format shown on your chartplotter or coordinate source. DD, DDM, and DMS are common choices across Garmin, Lowrance, Simrad, B&G, Raymarine, Furuno, Humminbird, and other marine displays, although menu names and precision vary by model. Salinity supports all three plus either coordinate order. DDM is the boat-friendly default. Formatting does not convert a datum: confirm both devices use WGS 84 before copying a position.

Yes. The Live Tides page requests measured water levels and predictions from NOAA CO-OPS for the selected station. Search a harbor or city, enter a seven-digit NOAA station ID, or allow one-time location access to find the nearest station. Observations and predictions are labeled separately. Coverage is limited to NOAA stations in the United States and its territories, and a nearby station can differ from the exact water around your boat.

The private dashboard can store a credential record and supporting file now. The dedicated credential wallet, expiration workflows, verification states, and location-aware fishing-rules engine remain on the roadmap. A stored image may not replace an official credential, and users must verify licenses, permits, seasons, limits, and closures with the responsible agency.

Mechanic Live is a roadmap design for preserving the exact time, lead-up, and recorded system state around an irregularity. The owner could share that evidence with a mechanic before a visit. It records context; it does not prove the cause, authorize a repair, or replace manufacturer diagnostics.

The account model allows one active Android phone per individual account. A paired watch follows that phone and does not use another phone slot. Server-side device binding is built, but full enforcement waits for the signed Android request and integrity rollout.

Family Pro is designed for one owner plus up to three invited adult members. Each person uses a separate account and settings. The owner shares a private, expiring invitation link; members do not share the owner’s password.

Email and password are the current account path. Google sign-in is shown in the preview interface but will not work until the Google provider is enabled and its production redirect configuration is verified.

The website presents Free, Individual Pro, and Family Pro planning with monthly, three-month, and annual intervals. The final Free-versus-Pro feature split is still being decided, and live checkout must remain unavailable until Stripe prices, webhooks, taxes, refunds, and entitlement changes are verified end to end.

The assistant receives only the messages you type and a short portion of this chat. Do not enter passwords, payment-card details, precise location, medical information, private boat records, or emergency details. When AI mode is enabled, that text is sent through Salinity’s server to its configured AI service provider for an answer.
